Please Help The Animal Victims Of
The Floods In Mississippi And Louisiana

In Defense of Animals has played a vital role in relief efforts following many natural disasters, including Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Doll Stanley leads IDA's disaster response teamthe earthquakes of Haiti and Chile in 2010, and, most recently, during floods in Australia and Brazil.

And now The Mississippi River Flood of 2011. For the animals the worst is yet to come. IDA has already moved into ACTION. Please help us get the job done!

Families are fleeing their homes. Fields of cotton, rice and corn are being destroyed in a flood of historic proportions. Black bear habitat is disappearing as the bears and other wildlife search for dry land.

With the crest expected in different communities over the next week, dogs and cats left behind are helpless – able only to panic, run and hide as the waters rise to some of the highest levels on record.

Donate now:IDA's response to this disaster is being led by the director of our Hope Animal Sanctuary, Doll Stanley. But we need to be able to count on your support now to see our emergency rescue operation through.

We have already:

  • Organized a crew of volunteers to assist in the rescue, transport and care of animals.
  • Obtained use of a building to shelter the animals and a veterinarian to insure injured animals are treated and all are kept healthy. This temporary shelter in Mississippi is now operational.
Want To Volunteer? We need ...
  • Volunteers with MART certification
  • Potential volunteers in Mississippi interested in becoming MART certified.
  • Volunteers with trucks and trailers
If you can help, e-mail our team leader: Doll@idausa.org. She will check and respond to e-mail every night.
  • Arranged for food, bowls, litter and crates.

We have even begun to find adoptive homes for animals who cannot be reunited with their guardians.

But still, we urgently need your help.

  • We are making numerous trips to and from the Delta and fuel costs are huge.
  • We need funds to cover the cost of the transport vehicle itself.
  • And we will certainly need medical supplies that we just do not have, and will need to pay for emergency medical procedures.

The situation is dire. The animals’ needs are great and increasing every hour as the flood waters rise. Please click here to support this effort. Please be as generous as you can, as quickly as you can.
